These rules follow the PRCA, NBHA,and NHSRA rulebooks, or combination thereof, we will refer to these rulebooks on all items not addressed under these ground rules. Any attempt to cheat, deceive, or otherwise break any rule is grounds for disqualification and any offender(s) may be suspended or banned from entering the Jackson Hole Rodeo. We attempt to be open and honest throughout all rodeos and ask the same of our contestants.
Rule #1 — Have Fun!
We love and enjoy rodeo and feel a strong desire to share the sport with the public. We’ll probably never be the biggest or richest rodeo, but we can be the most fun! We hope our contestants feel the same way and deliver a positive and fun experience to all who have come to watch. If we can’t have fun, we have to ask ourselves, why are we here?
Appearance
Western attire shall be worn at all times by contestants and helpers. Western attire will consist of a long sleeve button down shirt, pants, Cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat.
Exception: The only exception to this rule will be during the slack performance when competitors may opt to not wear a cowboy ha. Ball caps or other hats are never allowed.
Animal Treatment
Mistreatment of any animal will not be tolerated at the Jackson Hole Rodeo. Any contestant, participant or helper found mistreating any animal will be disqualified and will forfeit all entry fees. Flagrant violators will be banned from further competition.
Member Association
In order to bring a better rodeo and allow for better prizes and added money, we have elected to form a Jackson Hole Rodeo Membership Association. It is not a requirement to join the association to compete in our rodeo. However to acquire points and qualify for our finals, participants MUST purchase a card. An additional fee will be applied to non-member participants.
Jackson Hole Rodeo membership cards may be purchased for $100 for all events. The card revenue will be go directly toward prizes. The finals will have $1,000 added money in all events with the exception of tie-down, breakaway and the peewee events. At least $500 added money will be added to breakaway and tie-down. The mini-bulls will not be excluded in the added money but the total will be posted at a later date.
Points
- Points will start accruing on June 1st.
- Points will ONLY accrue after a JHR membership card has been purchased.
- Point will be awarded respective to the position placed in the rodeo.
- In order to qualify for the finals, you MUST purchase a JHR membership AND attend at least 5 rodeos. Exceptions may be made for legitimate reasons, such medical or veterinary.
Judges
Two approved judges will be used for all rough stock events. When available, a back judge will be used.
- Each judge will carry a stopwatch. The judge stopwatches are the official time. A qualified ride is determined when the rider has not disqualified him or herself after eight seconds has elapsed on the judges stopwatch or the buzzer sounds. The back judge, when available, shall be the official timer, the judge on the latch side of the chute gate will be primary backup, and the other judge will be secondary backup. Should the buzzer fail or go too long, the judges will then look at the primary, secondary and chute judges time. Discretion will be used as to whether the judge feels his time was correct and if it should be used or discarded. At any time a contestant touches with free hand or otherwise disqualifies him or herself prior to the buzzer and prior to 8 seconds on the judges stopwatch, the contestant will receive a no score.
- All discrepancies will be first taken to the arena director, then the arena director will address the judge. Any attempt to sway a judges decision or otherwise influence a judge will be considered disqualifying event. Any flagrant or abusive behavior toward a judge or any rodeo personnel will be a disqualifying event, offenders may be banned from future events if it is deemed necessary.
Team Roping
- Team roping will be a numbered format using the USTRC numbering system. Team roping will be divided into three divisions per rodeo. Divisions will be an #8 capped at a #4, a #10 capped at a #6, and an Open. Ropers may enter each rodeo a maximum of two times. If the same division is entered, contestant must either switch partners or switch ends — you may not rope the same end of the steer for the same partner in any particular division.
a. The preferred number will be a current USTRC card. A past card may be used in lieu of a current card at the discretion of the roping judge (flagger). If no card is available, the roping judge will assign a number based on assessed skill level. At any point the roping director feels that any roper is inappropriately numbered, the roper will be asked to enter the appropriate division. Any flagrant attempt at thwarting or cheating the number system will lead to disqualification and will be reported to USTRC.
- Each team will be allowed two loops. Only a miss on either end will constitute a no time.
- Participants are limited to two entries. In the case that time allows, we let ropers enter ONE additional time. Ropers may only enter any division twice and no team roper may rope more than three times in a rodeo.
- All stock will be chute run.
